Bournemouth Christmas Tree Wonderland

This year, Bournemouth town centre and gardens has been truly decked out to allow visitors to walk in a Christmas tree Wonderland. Nestled in a Christmas market to rival some of the best in the country, visitors are treated to an ice rink, two alpine bars and a veritable plethora of stalls stocking gifts, treats and deliciously festive food and drink. Bournemouth is less than half an hour away from Shamba, so it’s well worth a visit if you’re staying over the Christmas period until the 2nd January.

Rocking around the Christmas tree

Stretching from Bournemouth town centre, through the lower gardens and along the beach front, you’ll be treated to a variety of twinkling trees and light installations. See if you can spot the festive teddy and be sure to walk through the ginormous bauble before you reach the huge tree that spans the path. Take a walk under the tree and immerse yourself in the glittery goodness! There are a spectacular range of surprises along the way with plenty of colour, some less-than-traditional trees and beautiful walkways under the dressed canopy of the trees. It’s truly enchanting at any time of day, but of course, make the most of the darker afternoons with the little ones to get the full effect of the lights.

Take to the ice

Even if you’re more like Bambi on ice rather than Torvill and Dean, you’ll love a trip to the ice rink. Situation in the lower gardens, this huge ice rink has skates to rent and helpful sit-on frames for younger skaters. Allocated time slots mean that the ice is never too full, and if you fancy heading down late in the evening then you might find it quieter still.

Feast your eyes...and your belly!

Next to the ice rink, you’ll find one of the two alpine bars in this year’s Christmas market. Stepping into The Moguls Alpine Bar will make you feel like you’ve come in from a day on the slopes with faux fur throws, a roaring fire, festive decorations, and of course, some seasonal tipples. There’s an impressive hot chocolate too which is not to be missed if you have a sweet tooth. A very short walk back into the town centre and you’ll find the second bar, this two storey wonder has big baubles to sit in and offers warm spiced cider, mulled wine, beer and soft drinks.

Amongst the trader stalls you’ll find some absolutely delicious treats to keep you going. From Yorkshire pudding wraps to raclette, churros to American sweets, there’s something to tickle everyone’s taste buds!

Last minute Christmas shopping

A potter round the festive traders will make you feel truly immersed in Christmas! Open daily, you’ll find a variety of wares including handmade cosmetics, winter warmers, preserves, cheese and jewellery so you’ll definitely find something for your loved ones (or yourself). You’ll be able to spend plenty of time browsing the stalls and listening to the Christmas songs which often come from live choirs and musicians. The high street shops are also open late on Thursday evenings during the run up to Christmas, and there are no traditional Sunday shopping hours either, so if you’re short a few gifts then you’re covered.

There’s been a fantastic effort made with the festive frolics in Bournemouth town centre this year, so if you’re in the area be sure to get your best (or worst) Christmas jumper on, and head down to see what’s on.
