Swanage Carnival 2018

24 July 2018

Swanage hosts one of Dorset’s biggest carnivals in July and August with the Swanage Regatta and Carnival week which this year runs from Saturday 28th July to Saturday 4th August.

Swanage Carnival Procession

Worthy of a trip over on the ferry or around through Wareham, the week long event is jam packed full of great entertainment for all ages.

The procession is a major highlight for Carnival with colourful floats, dancing and music and thousands of people lining the 2.5 mile route through the town. It all starts at 3pm on Sunday 29th July and the theme this year is ‘Safari’!

Swanage Fireworks

Every year the town host a fantastic firework show - with 3 displays taking place on Saturday 28th July, Wednesday 1st August and Saturday 4th August.

Why not grab a fish and chip supper and watch the display from the many vantage points around the town - including the beach, the seafront, Recreation Ground, Sandpit Field, the Pier, the Downs or near the Old Stone Quay.

Family Fun throughout the week

Other fun events taking place throughout the week include sandcastle competitions, treasure hunts, dog show, children’s disco, bingo, the Swanage bay swim and Masquerade night, to name but a few!

You find lots of free live music on most evenings along with the Carnival Bar.

To keep the kids entertained, the town runs the popular ‘What’s not my Line’ competition. Many of the local shops place an object in their shop window which they normally do not sell and all you have to do is find it!

According to the Swanage locals it is not as easy as it looks - with the shopkeeper's getting more cunning every year.  Pick up and entry form from the Carnival caravan on the sea front and the Carnival Information Tent in the Showground.

This is only a snapshot of some of the events taking place during the week. Grab a programme for £2.50 or check out the carnival website here for a full event timetable.
